IHOS is commissioning a site specific work for incredible buildings and spaces and the communities that use them.

IHOS is joined by Finnish choreographer / director Juha Vanhakartano to direct a cast of 20 excitingly diverse young singers, artists and professional musicians, in a site-specific performance exploring public and private spaces through voice, design and music.

Our artistic objective in this project is to animate spaces through innovative and enlightening music theatre practice, illustrating both their accessibility and interest for new and existing audiences.

The audience will travel to each site the choice of limousine, car and bus to three undisclosed sites around Hobart.

Choreographer - Director - Juha Vanhakartano Choreographer, Director, Event Co-coordinator Lighting/Video Designer, Dance/Movement Teacher Juha Vanhakartano was born in Finland, Helsinki. He graduated from Finnish National Opera Ballet School and entered Finnish National Ballet in 1975 followed by engagements with prestigious European companies such as Dusseldorf Ballet in Germany, Basler Ballet in Switzerland and as a soloist with Dance Theatre Reinhild Hoffmann in Germany. His professional career spans thirty years performing, directing and choreographing dance, theatre and opera productions throughout Europe and since 1996 in Australia. He has performed in over 100 professional productions and choreographed more than thirty opera, theatre and dance productions. His dance and opera productions have toured to several European festivals and theatres. In 1999 Commedia Machine dance production toured to six festivals in Finland and Germany. In 2004 Juha created and directed chamber-dance-opera Undertow for the Adelaide Bank 2004 Festival of Arts. In August 2005 Undertow toured to Sziget festival in Hungary, Budapest and to Finnish National Opera. In 2005 Juha directed Touch Wood music theatre production for Adelaide Festival Centre's in-space program and IHOS Opera Company. Since 2005 Juha has directed Lucia Di Lammemoor for Bel Canto Opera Company, Cosi Fan Tutte for University of Adelaide, Conservatorium and Mario Lanza Tribute show for SA's Out of the Square Theatres. Currently Juha works as a Performing Arts & Events Coordinator for Nexus Multicultural Arts Centre as well as Movement Teacher, Freelance Lighting & Video Designer. Since 2006 Juha is a member of Arts SA small organizations assessment panel.
