Ananke is the Greek word for Necessity

This trio of musicians come from diverse music traditions; from Greek Rebetika to Argentinian Tango, from Crossover Jazz to Ancient Byzantine and Medieval Chant, from cutting edge New Music to Free Improvisation.

The project is improvisational, critically exploring the ideas surrounding genre and modality against a context of the free flowing dynamics of conversation.

Ananke is a response to the process of Multiculturalism, broken histories and transported cultures filtered through the polemics of 21st century Australia. All three musicians work at the cutting edge of contemporary culture while remaining in resonance with their own personal music histories. All three musicians draw from their musical heritage yet transcend these positions to create a musical response that is uniquely a product of our time and place.

The resultant music an eloquent and rhapsodic response from the performers, history and memory is interwoven amongst the discord of modern culture.

About Kultour

Kultour is a national network touring Australian multicultural arts. Kultour seeks to educate, inspire and entertain, and to create new audiences for some of Australia's most talented artists.

IHOS has been showcased on the Kultour network, and IHOS supports the national Kultour program in Tasmania. The touring program takes local artists to new audiences, and gives mainstream audiences access to the exciting multicultural work that is currently on offer in the arts in Australia. Kultour crosses genres, styles and cultures, sometimes within one production.

Kultour was established by the Australia Council in 2001, as an initiative of the Arts in a Multicultural Australia policy.
