IHOS is pleased to announce the inaugural IHOS Australian Opera Award as a feature of the Hobart Eisteddfod

First Prize - $3500, Second prize $700
Competition Date - 3pm Sunday 29th June 2008

Criteria for Registration

  • All works must have been composed from 1970 forward
  • Participants must be an Australian citizen
  • Participants must be 18 years or over
  • Participants may select one or two pieces with a maximum performance time limit of 8 minutes.
  • Only works by Australian composers accepted
  • Genre - excerpts from previously staged opera or samples from work intended for performance in a staged production
  • Unpublished and new commissions are eligible for performance
  • Works must be accompanied
  • Works with electronic music or amplification must be submitted one month prior to registration for approval
  • For advice on repertoire selection see the Australian Music Centre or contact IHOS on 03 6231 2219
  • (As this prize is provided by IHOS, works composed by Constantine Koukias will not be eligible for performance in this competition )
