CONSTANTINE KOUKIAS - Artistic DirectorConstantine Koukias is the co-founder and artistic director of IHOS Music Theatre & Opera. IHOS has produced five large scale operas composed and directed by Koukias: Days and Nights with Christ, To Traverse Water, MIKROVION: Small Life 36 Images in a Phantom Flux of Life, and The Divine Kiss and Tesla - Lightning in His Hand in 2003.
He is well known for his innovative work in contemporary opera and other forms. In 1993 he was commissioned by the Sydney Opera House Trust in association with REM Theatre to compose Icon, a large-scale music theatre piece for the 20th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House.
In 1995 he composed and directed Medea for the State Theatre of South Australia. In 1997 his Incantation II for soprano and digital delay won the International Valentino Bucchi Vocal Prize in Rome and in 2004 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship.
His work Prayer Bells - Pentekostarion, which draws on traditions of religious chant, was premiered at the Melbourne Federation Festival in 2001.
Music theatre works include Orfeo, Rapture - Sonic Taxi Performance, Schwa – The Neutral Vowel, Antigone and The Da Ponte Project. Constantine has been the recipient of numerous international commissions and awards. Within a Prayer at Lamplighting was commissioned by the China National Symphony Orchestra Australian Tour, to commemorate thirty years of diplomatic ties with China.
His design credits include the internationally acclaimed Odyssey and Medea. He is currently working his new large scale opera about eminent Tasmanian wilderness photographer Olegas Truchanas.
MARIANNE FISHER - ProducerMarianne has worked on all major productions for IHOS since 1997. Marianne has also assisted with the development of the IHOS Laboratory, acting as producer and publicist for all of its productions.
In addition to her work with IHOS Opera, Marianne has worked with the Australian Script Centre, the Salamanca Arts Centre, Australian Film Television and Radio School, and as Production Manager on the France to Freycinet Festival.
Marianne is committed to performing arts in Tasmania: currently she is president of LIVE Performing Arts Tasmania, and serves on the arts sub-committee of Salamanca Arts Centre.
LYN MCGAURR - Marketing Co-ordinatorLyn comes to IHOS from Tourism Tasmania, where she worked in communications and public relations roles to market Tasmania as a holiday destination rich in natural and cultural experience.
Lyn has also worked as a journalist, writer and editor for a wide range of organisations, including the ABC, Lonely Planet and Penguin Books. She has a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Journalism and a Graduate Diploma in Publishing and Editing. Lyn is currently undertaking postgraduate research in Journalism, Media and Communications.
ISOBEL FERRIER - Associate ProducerIsobel is a musician and arts administrator with a background as a violinist and choral conductor. She obtained an honours degree and postgrad diploma in violin performance from the Tasmanian Conservatorium, where she also lectured in Aural Studies.
While a student she performed regularly with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, directed several choirs and contributed to the development of the IHOS Laboratory as a facilitator. In 2001 Isobel obtained a diploma from the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music in Hungary, and later lived in London where she obtained a Diploma of Law from Holborn College and worked in arts administration.
Isobel now resides in Sydney where she runs a freelance music management and production business, producing concert series at St James King St and managing other music projects in and around the Sydney area, including those for IHOS.
MARK PATTERSON - ScreenLab Executive ProducerMark is a filmmaker with significant credits to his name.
His collaboration with world-renowned writer and director Paul Cox includes (as producer) the highly-acclaimed feature film Innocence (2000), and Human Touch (2004) which was selected for the Toronto, Montreal and Melbourne film festivals; plus (as executive producer) The Remarkable Mr Kaye (2005), Kalaupapa Haven and Salvation (both in production).
He is also developing the feature film, Mindless Ferocity of Sharks, with director Jonathan Teplitzky. Mark's other credits include executive producer of government documentaries for the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and writer/director/producer for corporate and independent documentaries.
He established the production company Co-Media to specialise in social issue documentary, and he has worked in Aboriginal communities making documentaries and teaching filmmaking skills.
Currently Mark is chairman of the United Film Group, which formed in 2003.
WILL SHEEHAN – ScreenLab Executive Producer
Will Sheehan has been an arts administrator for over fifteen years, most recently as the principal of Wilburforce - a freelance business management consultancy for the performing arts with clients in the theatre and dance small to medium sector. Previously, Will was the General Manager of Griffin Theatre Company (2000-2004), a company dedicated to new play development and production, managing the Stables Theatre in Kings Cross and touring nationally. Will has also been a producer of documentaries and worked in the Opera industry both in Australia and abroad.
