IHOS Board


KARENA GREGORY- Director
Karena is a prominent Arts educator in Tasmania. She is the senior teacher of Visual Art and Media at Taroona High School. In 2003 Karena was the inaugural recipient of a Hardie Fellowship and spent 3 months in the US researching Arts and Media in education. Since moving to Hobart from Sydney in 1990, Karena has been a passionate supporter of the Arts in Tasmania. She has been a keen patron of IHOS since its beginnings and is especially interested in the development of young emerging talent through the IHOS Laboratory.

JOHN GREEN - Director
John studied law at the University of Tasmania, and was admitted to practice law in 1970. He did his articles at Piggott Wood & Baker (now PWB Lawyers). After six months practising in Devonport, John joined the Crown Law Department (conveyancing section), and later the Public Trust Office. In 1974 John entered the Tasmanian state parliament, serving as a Labor member for Denison. Subsequently John established his own legal practice, specialising in personal injury and general civil litigation. John is an active member of many community organisations, and is currently a board member of the Tasmanian Environment Centre and the Tasmanian Conservation Trust, Secretary of the Moonah Branch of Rotary and Treasurer of Moonah Promotions Inc.

GREG GURR- Director
Greg began his interest in audio at 16 while still at school in Tasmania. Through his career he has worked as acoustic jazz and contemporary music concert engineer, film and video sound recordist, and in a variety of theatre performance. Some of the highlights of Greg's career have included engineering the sound for Roy Orbison, Don Burrows, The Angels, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee and touring with international acts 10CC, ELO and The Stranglers. Greg also worked on Words and Silk, a documentary on author, Gerald Murnane, which won the art category of the New York Film and Video Awards. Greg's first IHOS production was Days and nights with Christ in 1997. Since then he has designed and operated the sound for two productions of The Divine Kiss and Sea Chant, which was performed in the inaugural 10 Days on the Island festival. He has also designed smaller shows for IHOS including Spirits of the Hoist, Schwa - the Neutral Vowel, and been an integral part of the IHOS Music theatre laboratory workshops. Greg is currently employed by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and a committed supporter of IHOS' work.

MELINDA STANDISH - Director
Melinda is a writer. She holds a BA (Hons) in English and Drama (University of Bristol, UK), and has undertaken post-graduate studies in psychology and neuroscience. Most recently Melinda has written multimedia for Roar Film: From Wireless to Web (ATOM's Best Education Website 2005), The Tragedy and Myth of the Tasmania Tiger, Madness and Mining the Imagination. In 2002 she wrote and directed The Chorus, a short film about IHOS for SBS. Previously she was a (Federal) ministerial speechwriter and press officer.

GREG FINDLAY - Director
Greg is an Account Director with Red Jelly. Previously he was a Brand Manager with J. Boag & Son Brewing for seven years. He was employed in 2001 after completing a B. Comm with Marketing and HR majors. Prior to this Greg had worked in the hospitality industry in Hobart from 1996 after living/working in Edinburgh for a year in 1995 and the food processing industry in the NW of Tasmania. Greg has been a member of the Dodges Ferry Primary School Association since 2005 and currently serves as the Chairman. Greg brings skills developed through marketing in a competitive environment, project management and sponsorship as well as an interest in marketing to under 28 year olds to the Board. 

JOHN RUSSELL - Director
John is a director and researcher of Domain-42 Pty Ltd, which develops complex digital electronics systems. Current projects include a low cost portable eye examination unit for the third world, and a digital correlator for the Molonglo Radio Telescope near Canberra. Prior to this John has developed and patented many designs, including high power audio amplification and recording studio acoustic treatments. He was a founder of Aquasmart Pty Ltd, which developed a unique aquaculture feeding system that maximises production and minimises waste, which is exported to the fish farming industry worldwide. John has a long term passion for music and continues to play guitar. John brings the abilities of analysis and lateral thought to the IHOS board.

DESMOND MORRES - Treasurer
Des is currently Area Business Manager for Southern Tasmania Area Health Services which encompasses over 30 health service sites with a budget of over $45 million. Des is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Secretary, Registered Company Auditor and Registered Tax Agent. Des has occupied the position of Company Secretary/Director Finance in a number of industry sectors including legal services, health, consumer products and more recently superannuation services. Des was General Manager for Dobson, Mitchell and Allport, a major Tasmanian law firm, for 5 years. As Director Finance for Rehabilitation Tasmania Pty. Ltd. Des was involved in establishing a comprehensive rehabilitation service for public and private patients which included a state of the art acquired brain injury inpatient facility. Des was State Chairman of the Tasmanian Branch of The Institute of Company Secretaries for several years and on the National Board for two years. Recently Des was Chair (5 years) for Terrapin Puppet Theatre Ltd, a company that produces a wide and varied program of performances promoting the puppetry art form both in Australia and Overseas. Des is also a current board member of Tasmanian Regional Arts. Tasmanian Regional Arts (TRA) builds vibrant communities through arts and cultural development. TRA works with artists, our branch network and a wide range of organisations and communities to support the development, presentation and promotion of the arts throughout Tasmania.

WERNER IHLENFELD - Foundation Director
Co-founder of IHOS, Werner was primarily responsible for project management, production logistics, sponsorship and support from the corporate sector and community groups until 2004. Werner operates Flaming Eye Productions, a special effects and pyrotechnical company. Werner has served on numerous boards including the German Australia Club and the executive committee of 92FM community radio.

ROD ANDERSON - Director
For the past 25 years Rod has been an international business consultant working world-wide with companies such as Rio Tinto, Merck, Amgen, Telstra, Bank of America, Educational bodies such as the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of NSW and with Government and its instrumentalities such as the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance as well as Department of Human Services, Melbourne Water, South Australia Workcover to name just a few. He specialises in strategic planning, the development of organisational leaders and the design and implementation of major change management processes. Previously Rod was an actor, dancer and singer working throughout Australia in Music Theatre on television and, notably, with the Melbourne Theatre Company. As a director he was a founding member of the Victorian State Opera and directed several of the company's first major productions as well as free-lancing for many companies including Hobart's Theatre Royal. He is now settled in Hobart in semi-retirement and is a member of the Board of Management of the Theatre Royal.
